Secondland is a Budapest based fashion brand making upcycled garments from vintage clothing in a romantic and bohemian way. While studying fashion and textile design in Hungary, founder and designer Vecsei Kinga Réta realized the industry’s uncontrollable wastefulness, making her aim for a sustainable, yet romantic and trendy label. Secondland achieves this by upcycling materials that already exist in a new, exciting way, let it be her childhood’s gemstones as buttons, granny’s hand crochets as a dress or a floral bedsheet as a shirt. By creating seasonless, variable collections and using preloved treasures handpicked by her, Réta introduces us to Secondland’s magical world, inspired by her childhood self.
Secondland is the future. Whilst others talk, Secondland acts. To create something hip, cool and fun with 0 carbon footprint is almost impossible and something that not many attempt world wide. Then came Réta Vecsei to stir things up. Secondland’s unique presentation and mission drives everyone to stop and reevaluate. Réta’s final graduation collection rocked the entire country, no magazine cover was left without Secondland.
In these critical times of climate change Secondland’s aim is to create a romantic and playful magical world to make sustainable fashion engaging. The brand itself is a creative response to the waste of consumerism. In Seconland the fashion garments are made of vintage and preloved clothes by the method of upcycling. Vintage household textiles, deadstock from manufacturers and even recycled materials are also used as raw materials for the clothes. In addition the brand's local production takes place under fair and ethical circumstances. The designs are seasonless and also variable with each other so they fit in a capsule wardrobe easily. Educative captions about responsibility and awareness appear on the garments as well. That makes the customers stakeholders as they wear these messages on themselves and promote a sustainable approach.
